PH to resume use of AstraZeneca vaccines for people below 60

The Philippines is once again allowing the use of AstraZeneca vaccines for people under the age of 60 following a review of blood clot reports in other countries.

 

The Department of Health has approved the recommendation of the Food and Drug Administration to lift the suspension order, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Monday.

The COVID-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila decreased to 1.16 for the previous week as OCTA Research notes a downward trend of new coronavirus cases in Pasay, Manila, Marikina, Taguig, and Mandaluyong.

The latest reproduction number covers April 9 to 15, based on the monitoring report released by OCTA Research on Friday.

A report recently published by the medical journal Lancet that revealed COVID-19 transmission is predominantly airborne warrants stricter safety protocols in the Philippines’ public transport system and in enclosed office spaces, an expert said Monday.
